QIC Core - Core Model 18

The QIC Core model 18 is the ideal option for designers, educators, and hobbiests who wish
to take advantage of the PIC Microchip TM 18F452 series of controller. This new processor
offers greater program space, faster execution times, and new special features such
as an 8 x 8 mulitiply. Its small size – 26mm x 77mm, and easy interfacing to breadboards,
facilitates rapid design cycles.

The QIC core integrates the commonly needed features required of any project – RS232 serial
support, In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) and support hardware in one easy to use package.
The designer is free to start designing the larger system without focusing on the details of
getting the microcontroller to work.

Students and instructors will both appreciate the ease of use of the QIC Core. It can be integrated
easily into a vast number of projects and applications. Hobbiests will appreciate the vast array of
inexpensive 3rd party tools.

Leveraging the vast array of resources available for the PICTM series of microcontrollers,
the QIC Core is simple to program, and easy to find example code. Program the QIC Core using
freely available assemblers, or cost effective C compilers.

• 8 x 8 hardware multiply
• Interrupt priority levels
• 4 hardware timers
• 10 bit A/D (8 channels)
• 10 bit PWM (2 channels)
• RS 232 serial port – connects directly to the PC
• In-circuit serial programming support hardware built-in
• On board reset switch.
• Single +5V supply required

Designing with the QIC Core

The QIC Core integrates all the commonly used components required to get a system up and running;
the oscillator, RS232 support, In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) hardware, and reset switch, in one
convenient package. The user is then free to interface custom hardware to this package. This shortens
the design time as the user is relieved of the task of getting a microcontroller system running. The task
is reduced to designing the interface hardware and writing the application code.
